Bishop slams Hasan's 'inherently absurd' claims

Malaysian Born: Selangor PAS exco Hasan Ali is desperately trying to survive at all costs after having been rendered irrelevant following the lost of his party's post.

His recent comments are in the true tradition of classic political prostitution, literally willing to say and do anything, putting his dignity and credibility on the auction block to the highest bidder.

The absurd comments and accusations are not only without a shred of evidence but are intended to drive a wedge between Muslims and Christians in Malaysia for no other reason but to take the attention away from the real problems and forge some kind of twisted Muslim unity based on hatred.

This sort of person is to be detested, masquerading as a godly person championing his religion when all he is interested in is championing his own warped interest at any cost, including destroying the peace and unity of our country. He is a real dirt bag.

WAP: Very well said, Bishop Paul Tan. Please continue to speak out.

I am wonderstruck how a man like Hasan Ali, supposedly well educated, can come out with such a stupid lie without any evidence, and on a subject matter which is so very sensitive and serious.

The slightest hint of truth in such an accusation would have mobilised the whole law enforcement arm to action.

Trumpet Call: The more clowns like Hasan Ali make up stories of imaginary threats against Islam in Malaysia, the more ridiculous they look.

Really, nobody in their right minds believe him. So let him continue on his campaign of incitement of hatred and we will just watch him burn in his own fire of self-delusion.

In the meantime, Christians will continue to sow a message of love and forgiveness, which is the reason why we celebrate Christmas this Sunday. Father, forgive him because he does not know what he is doing.

Sadirah: It is sad that a man of his supposed intelligence continues to make such absurd claims. He would do well to deal with the increasing divorces, the levels of corruption and cheating within his own community then focusing on the 'other'.

He has no evidence and just shoots his mouth hoping that simple-minded Muslims would buy his message and view him as a great Muslim. Such Muslims discredit the message of Islam and do great harm to their cause.

Those who continue to need enemies to define themselves reveal only the shallowness of their own faith. Come on Hasan Ali, grow up and be the man you are meant to be.

Onyourtoes: This is how a depraved and perverted mind works. If he thinks he could do that (i.e. using pretenses to hoodwink others into their faith), he assumes that others could also do the same.

Look, you deranged piece of s**t, you are causing too much hatred and dissension among the people simply because you are isolated within your party and most probably unwanted by Umno.

So stop being a hypocrite wanting to fight for God and your religion. Look, God need no protection from a person like you.

Paul Warren: Bishop, it is not worth responding to Hasan Ali's allegations anymore. It would be like responding to a child's complaints through any kind of contemplative discourse.

It would seem to me that Hasan gets his highs from being responded to by someone of the stature of the bishop. Ignore him, bishop. Once he sees he does not get your attention, he knows his day is up.

RR: This comical chap should be removed as a state minister forthwith for repeatedly talking absolute nonsense thereby causing fear and threat to the rakyat.

He is trying to escape a defamation suit by not mentioning any Christian organisation but the churches should institute legal action against him to shut his gab.

Even after the DUMC (Damansara Utara Methodist Church) controversy, which had been swept under the carpet by the religious authorities for lack of evidence, Hasan continues to accuse the church, making even wilder accusations .

Where is the proof? Is it an Islamic practice to publicly accuse someone of committing an offence without any shred of evidence? I wonder why are moderate Muslims not speaking out.

When fanatics are allowed to rule the roost and seen to be champions of Islam, it not only projects Islam in a bad light, it also makes the moderate stance of progressive Muslims irrelevant.

It does not do PAS any good to retain Hasan Ali as its representative. He represents religious fanaticism and bigotry.

Nik V: I am indeed glad that we have Hasan Ali who makes Umno's style of Islam so amusing.

As Bishop Paul so wisely stated, if there is some absurd Christian willing to proselytise in the fashion that Hasan has accused, even that Christian sounds as religiously overzealous and unqualified as Hasan.

The saddest part is many non-Malays and non-Muslims will further make conclusions on their perception of Islam based on cartoonish characters like Hasan who depict the religion as lacking any backbone or common sense.

Rationale Muslims need to correct this wrong done by the likes of Hasan.

David Dass: Hasan assumes that Christians win merit points by obtaining converts by duplicity and deception. That assumption is wrong.

Secondly, he assumes that Muslims can be easily duped by Christians masquerading as Muslims and stealthily enticing Muslims away from their Islamic faith. That surely must be false.

We must ask the question - why does he persist in making these false and fanciful allegations?

It is possible that Hasan and others like him suspect that there are Muslims who are sympathetic to Christians or who are drawn to the Christian faith without actually becoming Christians and his object is to throw them on the defensive or to flush them out.

In a diverse country like ours, there is much intermarriage. There will be family members following different religions. Hasan and his kind will only be comfortable with the parts actually warring with each other. That is madness.

We have, like Indonesia, an experience that is unique. We actually love people of different faiths.

VanGogh: Hasan must have watched too many fiction movies to come up with a plot like this. Strange indeed!
