In an impassioned statement today, the Bachok MP said that claims that he is "trapped" by Umno "cannot be further from the truth and is completely baseless".
"My involvement in PAS has been to be the voice of Muslims in Malaysia; I never said I will join Umno.
"For the nth time, I am stressing that there isn't an iota of intention on my part to join Umno," he said.
He added that as a PAS member, he is loyal to the party's struggle to "uphold Islam and to contribute to the ummah in any situation".
Referring to a statement made by party secretary general Mustafa Ali ( right ), Nasharudin said that such claims were too "simplistic" and do not reflect his political thinking.
"Don't use simplistic arguments (like joining Umno) to make conclusions over my actions, views and political judgements when we face larger political challenges.
"I realise that what I am facing today has been faced by those before me who chose PAS as their political stage," said the former deputy president.
Mustafa had told party organ Harakahdaily that Nasharuddin and former Selangor PAS commissioner Hasan Ali had fallen into Umno's trap and were sowing discord in the Islamic party.
In an interview with Umno-owned Berita Minggu , Nasharuddin expressed concern that the party had strayed from its Islamic roots.
