Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming is to proceed with a defamation suit against the blogger who claimed that he had abused his power as state exco during Pakatan Rakyat's brief rule of Perak.
"(I am) filing a RM10 million defamation suit at Ipoh High Court to sue the blogger for libel," he said in a Facebook posting this morning.
Blogger Ahmad Sofian Yahya had failed to comply with Nga's letter of demand for an apology, sent last Friday.
Nga (left) had given the 47-year-old pro-BN blogger 48 hours to say sorry and retract his posting on www.sekupangduas.blogspot.com
The blogger has reportedly refused to do so and stands by his posting.
He has also lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over the alleged abuse of power by Nga, who was then the state exco in charge of local government.
Ahmad Sofian had leaked on his blog copies of Ipoh City Council meeting minutes in 2008, stating that the state had made the council to pick the highest bidder for a contract to supply lounge suits.
The decision over-rode the awarding of the contract to the lowest bidder at RM450 per suit.
The highest bidder at RM650 per suit was tailoring firm Ethan & Elton, in which Nga's wife Wong Seow Ching is a director.
Nga has denied wrongdoing, saying that he was not on the tender board, while Ethan & Elton have denied using their connections to clinch the deal.
