Hasan Ali has refused to comment on calls by PKR for PAS to take action against him over his negative statements regarding the Free Anwar 901 rally.

During a press conference after the Seremban leg of Himpun, the Selangor exco member faced scores of journalists asking for his comments, following PKR deputy president Azmin Ali’s call yesterday.

The PKR leader took issue with Hasan for breaking ranks with PAS and Pakatan over the rally, amongst other issues.

Earlier, when addressing a crowd of 3,000 at the Paroi Indoor Sports Stadium, Hasan said that he had been singled out for creating animosity between Pakatan members, creating havoc, speaking without evidence and daydreaming.

“But actually I’m a person who loves peace. I have an option that I can just come to my office and sit from 9am to 5pm, sign papers, write letters and go home.

“But even though I have no Islamic higher paper qualifications from the University of Al-Azhar, Egypt; I have carried all this work out to make sure that Islam is protected.

“When children are lost, a husband is lost; these are not big issues. But when the ‘ dua kalimah syahadat ’ (declarations as a Muslim) are lost, that’s a big issue,” said Hasan.

‘Use proper channels, Azmin’

Meanwhile, PAS Youth has expressed regret at Azmin’s statement, saying that he should respect that Hasan is still a PAS member.

“We feel that the statement by Azmin should rightfully be channelled through the Pakatan Rakyat council meeting and not through the pro-Umno media,” said PAS Youth vice-chief Raja Ahmad Al-Hiss in a statement today.

He said Azmin should be aware that his statement can be detrimental to inter-Pakatan party relations.

“After Azmin’s statement, we in PAS feel unease that this is not very respectful within PAS and Pakatan itself.”

He added that PAS had reserved their comments when PKR members had left the reformist party in the past.

“This is a sensitive issue. We hope the Pakatan council will issue a strong reminder regarding Azmin’s statement and hope they will discuss the Hasan Ali issue,” he said.
