The MCA has been accused of colluding with Malay-rights group Perkasa over the botched distribution of ‘ang pow’ in white envelopes at the latter’s Chinese New Year open house yesterday.

NONE DAP secretary- general Lim Guan Eng questioned why MCA had ferried senior citizens to the Perkasa event in Kuala Lumpur, when it is well known that the NGO is not only “racist but extremist".

"We can clearly see that all the racists are now grouping together. We have the Chinese racist, which is MCA, and the Malay racists, Perkasa and Utusan Malaysia ," he told a press conference in Penang.

"It seems they are all brothers now. Now we know that MCA supports Perkasa.

"What will MCA say now that its members support the racist Perkasa? What will they say now there is a direct link between MCA and Perkasa?"

He was referring to the involvement of Seputeh MCA leader Collin Thiew who had attended the open house, during which he had reportedly said that Perkasa also fights for ethnic groups other than Malays.

NONE Lim begged to differ.

"Everyone knows that Perkasa stands for racism and extremism but it seems that another racist - the MCA - is working with Perkasa," he charged.

"What has MCA go to say to this now that their own divisional leader is involved?"

Gerakan has urged Perkasa to apologise , while MCA has chided Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali for being "ignorant and insensitive" about Chinese customs.

In response , Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali had said that the NGO would not have used white envelopes if it had known that this was a practice for funerals.

“To Perkasa, white signifies clean, holy, sincere. That’s why we did not change (the envelopes) to another colour ...," he said.
