A roadblock on the main road leading to the PAS headquarters in Pekan, Pahang, where PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim spoke yesterday, caused a traffic jam five kilometres long.

He said the roadblock was mounted just before Pekan’s main bridge Jambatan Abu Bakar.

"I ended up travelling by motorcycle to the venue 3km away. Anwar also had to take a bike from 5km away," he said when contacted.

The MP claimed that the road was clear of traffic after the roadblock.

anwar ibrahim on motorbike in pekan He added that the traffic jam delayed the ceramah so much that Anwar's speech went beyond the 12am police permit limit.

"The police were there at 12am on the dot, but (Anwar) managed to extend the programme, saying that it's only fair due to the troubles we had to go through to get there," he said.

Dzulkefly said about 3,000 people attended the event, "mostly local", which he observed was "unusual for Pekan".

Anwar to be in Johor tomorrow

Anwar spent the whole of yesterday in Prime Minister Najib Razak's home state Pahang.

He visited Felda Bukit Damar in Lancang near Temerloh earlier in the afternoon before giving a ceramah in Kuantan.

The parliament seat of Pekan is held by Najib, who ‘inherited' it from his father, Abdul Razak Hussein, Malaysia's second prime minister, following his death in 1976.

Anwar will continue his foray into the Malay heartland tomorrow in Johor, where he is scheduled to speak in Rompin, Endau and Sembrong.
