DAP: Najib, Chua cancelled each other's arguments
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's claim that "a vote for PAS is a vote for DAP" has effectively cancelled out MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek's claim that "a vote for DAP is a vote for PAS".
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's claim that "a vote for PAS is a vote for DAP" has effectively cancelled out MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek's claim that "a vote for DAP is a vote for PAS".
In a statement today, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said Najib and Chua's arguments do not make sense.
He argued that while Najib is saying that DAP was anti-Malay and anti-Islam, Chua was trying to paint DAP as an agent of PAS' Islamic agenda.
"No sane, rational and responsible political coalition will use such diametrically conflicting canards - mutually cancelling each other out," Lim said.
Yesterday, Najib had alluded at a forum with Muslim scholars that a vote for PAS would be akin to a vote for the secularist DAP, without naming either party.
Just a day earlier, Chua had repeatedly said, during his debate with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, that supporting the DAP was as good as supporting PAS.
Lim, who is DAP national adviser and MP for Ipoh Timor, said Najib's statement proved that he had given up on his 1Malaysia policy of getting Malaysians to identify themselves as Malaysians first.
"It stands as a testimony to the hypocrisy and bankruptcy of BN politics, where the basic thrusts of Umno and MCA election campaigns are based on lies and falsehoods, and what is worse, sheer nonsense and illogicality which mutually cancels each other out.
"In contrast, PKR, PAS and DAP offer a common message to all Malaysians to unite as Malaysians to save Malaysia from the corruption, abuses of power, injustices and racialism of Umno and BN's rule," Lim added.
