Disciplinary action has been taken against six Terengganu students, including one who is pursuing medicine in Egypt, for involvement in street demonstrations against the government.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Said said the state government had withdrawn their study loans over their involvement last July, in an illegal rally linked to the Universities and University Colleges Act.

"We help them to further their studies, not to be involved in demonstrations or something unnecessary.

"We have asked them to answer show-cause letters and they have made an appeal.

"The state government takes a serious view of student involvement in unhealthy activities, including demonstrations, which would affect the nation's economic growth and undermine the government," he said.

Ahmad was speaking to reporters after distributing e-Book to 400 students of the Wakaf Mempelam state constituency in Sekolah Menengah Sultan Ahmad today.

Meanwhile, the menteri besar said the Barisan Nasional (BN) would build 2,000 low-cost houses in Wakaf Mempelam if the coalition won the 13th General Election.

Wakaf Mempelam has been the opposition stronghold for the past five terms. Its state assemblyman is Abdul Wahid Endut, who is also PAS commissioner.
