Expelled PAS member Hasan Ali (Ind-Gombak Setia) marked his first appearance in the Selangor legislature today as an Independent with a 40-minute speech, taking jabs at former party colleagues during the debate on the royal address.

He first targeted Selangor PAS commissioner Dr Abdul Rani Othman (PAS-Meru), who yesterday accused Hasan of being absent at a dinner held by the Selangor sultan recently and at the assembly sitting yesterday.

NONE When Rani interrupted with a query related to proselytising, Hasan ( right ) dodged the question.

Instead he chided Rani for "being personal", saying that the attack on him yesterday did not reflect the intelligence an assemblyman should have.

"I was once a parliamentarian. Sometimes ministers don't attend the Parliament sitting because they have some other urgent matters to attend to. Does that mean they are not respecting the House?

"Meru launched personal attacks on me simply because he was not appointed as (Selangor) exco after I was dismissed.

"He should see a psychologist to fix this problem," Hasan said to the BN assemblymen, who rapped their tables in agreement.

Upset by Hasan's words, Rani again interjected and demanded Hasan retract his words.

"I am a doctor by profession, you are not. I know I don't need a psychologist," he riposted.

To this Hasan shot back: "What is your problem? ‘Psychologist' is not a bad word at all."

“I might not be a doctor but I took courses on psychology before,” he added.

The former Selangor exco member in charge of religion then went on to sing praises of his newly-founded NGO Jalur Tiga, which he claimed has received 5,000 members since its launch in January.

Hasan also said he ould continue to reject any proposal to amend Article 153 of the federal constitution on Malay rights, although the Act is deemed irrelevant by certain quarters.

Childhood dream to be a postman

Shafie Abu Bakar (PAS-Bangi) interjected and asked Hasan whether his current onslaughts on Pakatan were due to his disappointment over his expulsion from the party.

Hasan refuted the notion, saying he had gained many achievements in his life.

“Why I should feel disappointed? I had been a parliamentarian, Selangor PAS commissioner and Selangor opposition leader. I had achieved a lot of things.

“In fact, my childhood dream was to become a postman only,” Hasan said, much to the amusement of those present.

At the afternoon session, Hasan continued  his PAS-bashing session, saying that the party had expelled him because it has deviated from the original struggles.

“I was expelled without being given a chance to appeal over the allegations made,” he said.

Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim then interjected and asked what had Hasan done during his three-year tenure as state exco member for religion to explain Islam to the non-Muslim organisations.

Hasan responded by saying the Selangor Islamic Religion Department (Jais) does not have enough skilled manpower to communicate its agenda to the non-Malay audiences.

“Thus, missionary works had been limited to only from mosque to mosque, surau to surau, but we tried to organise a discourse session on Islam once every month.

“There is rooms for improvement and I hope MB Khalid Ibrahim will do a good job on this after taking over the portfolio,” he said.

Batang Kali rep suspended for two hours

On a separate issue, Mohd Isa Kassim (BN-Batang Kali) was booted out from the assembly this morning for failing to comply with the instructions of speaker Teng Chang Kim.

Isa was sent out for two hours after his attempts to pose a second supplementary question to Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim were shot down.

Citing the Selangor Assembly Regulations, Teng said that he was entitled to limit the supplementary questions based on the time available.

“I will allow one supplementary question this morning because there are 17 questions to be answered by the MB,” he said.

However, Isa tried to defy Teng’s order and argued that the sitting this time would last for 10 days, which resulted in his two-hour suspension.
