Federal Territory and Urban Well-Being Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin has again given his assurance that a new police station will be built where the former Brickfields district police headquarters stood - and alongside a mixed development project.

NONE Speaking to Sinar Harian yesterday, Nong Chik said the new Brickfields police station was the government's commitment to serve the needs of the local community.

"The new police station will be built on a 3,900 square feet site and the development is in the midst of getting approval from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL)," Nong Chik said during a walkabout session at the former police station site along Jalan Tun Sambanthan.

He also said the project was not influenced by any quarter, as it had been decided and planned much earlier.

"Recently when the signboard (for the mixed development project) was put up, some said the government cheats and so on.

"There are quarters who are trying to politicise this matter because of general election, although this is just a process of development," Nong Chik said.

Umno link not explained

He was responding to PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar's statement that the government should disclose the land deals surrounding the project.

In a press statement on Aug 3, Nurul Izzah had highlighted the controversy over the land deal when she spotted a signboard at the project site indicating that the district police headquarters land, which is gazetted as institutional land, would be developed for commercial purposes.

Nong Chik also explained yesterday that the land was privatised two years ago to Primamuda Holdings Sdn Bhd, which has the track record of building the Travers police station.

However, he did not respond to another charge by Nurul Izzah that the developer is linked to Umno, with its Bukit Bintang division Wanita chief Mariany Mohamad Yit, who had once served on the advisory board of DBKL, being a director of Primamuda.
