In the wee hours ahead of the Himpunan Hijau Lestari Pengerang rally, a car lent to its emcee Hishamuddin Rais was splashed with bags of acid.

"This morning at about 5.15am according to the CCTV, a car came by and somebody come out of it and threw the (bags of) acid on the two cars," he related.

He said the car was lent to him to provide him transportation to Pengerang, whilst Azizan and a colleague ,Amirull Salihing, were shooting a documentary about his friend Lim Hwee Seng.

Lim is a former schoolteacher in the area in the 1970's and the documentary is about his return.

The group and a driver were staying at a borrowed home in Teluk Ramunia, about seven kilometres away from the protest venue.

pengerang himpunan hijau 300912 car attack by acid big 01 Amirull told Malaysiakini that damage was discovered at about 7.15am, and although the CCTV recorded the incident, it failed to record the assailant's face or the number plate of the car.

When asked to comment, Hishamuddin said, "I am so disappointed with such an action. I think this gangsterism should stop."

Two separate police reports were lodged at the Sungai Rengit police station at around 1pm.

According to Harakah Daily Online , PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub's vehicle windscreen was also smashed, on route to the rally venue.

"We believe that they are quarters who are not happy with the resident's decision to hold a demonstration," he said.

The attacks was also reminiscent of an attack on Save Pengerang Coalition deputy secretary Goh Woan Tyug's car on Aug 29. It was also splashed with acid. In addition, her mother's home in another village was splashed with red paint.

A bag containing the mutilated carcass of a snak e and flyers promoting the rally were also left at her home yesterday evening.
