In the statement today, the party's publicity chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man accused the federal government of intentionally delaying the report to prevent it from overshadowing Budget 2013, which Prime Minister cum Finance Minister Najib Abdul Razak tabled last Friday.
“This has caused the budget analysis to only focus on what has been announced without looking at the extent of leakages, abuses of funds and power, and the governance (issues) of the BN government,” he said.
Once the AG's report is released, Tuan Ibrahim believed it will serve as 'antidote' to the 'opium' given by Najib.
“This is because the AG's report in the past two years have revealed the government's failure to reform although it has been reprimanded annually by the AG.
“BN is certainly aware that they have hardly done anything in the issue of the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), and have been silent on the purchase of a RM40,000 computer and RM56,350 pair of binoculars,” he said, referring to some of the infamous cases of financial mismanagement the annual audit report has disclosed in recent years.
Tuan Ibrahim pointed out that the budget emphasised one-off handouts, which showed that Najib has run out of ideas to invigorate the economy.
“The action of paying one-off handouts can only appease the recipients temporarily, but the people will face the brunt of increasing living cost.
“This is like opium that numbs and distracts the people for the time being, but the pain will eventually be felt, and the abscess will be borne by the future generations,” he said, adding that the goodies offered in the budget are clearly to fish votes.
Hence he called on the people to examine the AG's report carefully when it is eventually tabled, and consider the need to have a new government with higher integrity to lead the country forward.
