The extraordinary hypocrisy of Mahathir

FREE YOURSAY 'You were once the world's greatest currency trader. Through your appointed people in Bank Negara, the country lost more than RM30 billion.'

Dr M: A vote for the opposition is a vote for Soros

your say Ipohcrite: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mahathir was the rogue tin trader, who in his naivety, foolishly tried to corner the tin market but failed egregiously in the early 1980s.

Now, he is venting his frustrations on Soros and peddling fear to influence votes for the BN in his desperate attempt to keep his son in political office and to save the ill-gotten family booty.

The menace to his own country is morphing into a traitor to his own country.

Anonymous Cat : A vote for BN is a vote for Mahathirism and cronyism. Mahathir, please stop insulting our intelligence. We can think for ourselves and make our own judgement.

What type of stupid 'Soros' story are you telling? You were once the world's greatest currency trader. Through your appointed people in Bank Negara, the country allegedly lost more than RM30 billion in the 1990s.

Stop blaming Soros. It takes two hands to clap. If your people had not been involved in currency speculation, do you think Soros would have been able to take advantage and speculate in our currency?

Just admit it was all your fault.

No racism: Just because Soros outwitted Mahathir, he now wants all of us to hate Soros. But why must Malaysians hate Soros?

Mahathir was played out by Soros. Billions of ringgit were lost to foreigners because of BN's stupidity.

Clever Voter: Voting BN is a vote for more daylight robbery of public funds, a total disregard for public interests and minority groups, but more importantly, the marginalisation of all those who have no connections directly or indirectly with BN.

We will continue to be extorted by toll operators, approved permit (AP) holders, licence operators, etc. We no longer command respect from regional allies, and our future generations will be semi-literate.

As taxpayers, we pay the cost of supporting these crooks, who will spend millions on imported cars, weddings, imported handbags, overseas holidays, etc. We will not even have proper police force and a proper judiciary to protect us. We need to change.

Dswami: If voting the opposition is to vote for Soros, then a vote for the BN is a vote for Umno, for Perkasa, Pekida and the many extreme Umno groups.

Absalom: Consider the alternative - a vote for the BN is a vote for:

i) justifying corruption at such extreme levels as to become the laughing stock of the world;

ii) politicians and their cronies enriching themselves to obscene levels without fear of legal retribution;

iii) the prostituting of the judiciary to protect those guilty of (ii) above;

iv) a callously irresponsible administration of the government in the way public debt is built up to risky levels (for future generations to bear) and then blaming it on the foreigners when crisis happens;

v) putting the lives of Malaysians on the line by having foreigners bring their unwanted projects here against the wishes of the people;

vi) continued milking of the peoples' money by way of tolls, bribes, commissions and wasteful projects, etc.

Do you think Pakatan or even Soros can do more damage to the country than what has been done by the BN up till now? So who is public enemy no 1 in Malaysia?

FellowMalaysian: Why did Mahathir tried to engage Soros and invite him to support his Global Peace Forum project when he had vilified and condemned Soros as the rogue currency trader who was responsible for the ringgit debacle in 1997?

There could not be any other reason for him to solicit Soros' support for his initiative, whether in funds or through lending his name. After being rebuffed by Soros, Mahathir spewed venom on him.

Now, he is accusing NGOs like human rights group Suaram as well as independent media Malaysiakini of betrayal for allegedly receiving funds from Soros' networks - something which he himself tried to do in 2006.

When you are the devil, the wrong will become right.

Anonymous_5fb: Mahathir aims to kill three birds, i.e. Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, Pakatan Rakyat and Malaysiakini with one stone. If possible, he intended to drag Soros along.

Too bad, Mahathir, you are not with the same league with Soros. Your one stone will come back hit to Umno, Najib and yourself. The rakyat have seen through you, a devil in disguise.

Anonymous_5fb: This old fox has cunningly put a NGO cap on Malaysiakini . This is what Mahathir wants the rakyat to believe, so as to justify his fabrication.

He is like quicksand, once you are caught with him, you will be dragged along with him to hell.

Isana: Mahathir is like a black-and-white TV - obsolete and belongs only to the museum.

Dr M's desperation knows no bounds
