Foreign funds - BN lawmakers play dumb

YOURSAY 'MPs are lawmakers. Yet our BN MPs don't know that there is no law against foreign funds. Indeed, we have a bunch of idiots as lawmakers.'

Nazri: No law to bar firms from getting foreign funds

your say Not Confused: De facto law minister Nazri Aziz, you ignoramus; I think we all accept that there is nothing illegal about receiving foreign funds.

You might want to tell that to your half-baked colleague of yours, the home minister, who is pursuing human rights NGO Suaram over the allegation of receiving foreign funding.

It is not the foreign funding that's the problem, it's the fact that the funds supposedly for Umno Sabah were being smuggled out of Hong Kong into the country in a suitcase. How downright suspicious was that?

The fact that the funds were destined for Umno made it even more suspicious. The source of the funds is therefore naturally of interest to all.

If the source was from some illegal activities in Hong Kong then there is a case to answer - it could be drug money, prostitution, or heaven forbid, even gambling. Nazri, how would that match with your party's Islamic principles?

Longyan Ren: "There is currently no law to stop companies from receiving funds from foreign sources," said Nazri.

Yes, Nazri, there is currently also no law to compel companies to reveal the sources or origins of their received funds, eg. political donations to Sabah Umno, am I right?

But I understand there are laws that can bring to book companies with "confusing" accounts, eg. Suaram's financial accounts?

Eddie 50: So following what Nazri has said, those raids at the Suaram offices are just friendly visits by Registrar of Societies (ROS) officials who were just dropping by to say hello?

NMNT: Dear Nazri, to be fair we should also stop foreign funding for companies because these foreigners may be buying our economy and thus, compromising our security.

Anonymous_3f68: Until the RM40 million for Umno Sabah was disclosed, the ‘dumnosaurs' were aggressively posturing against Suaram questioning their alleged RM400,000 annual funds.

Now that they have been caught with their pants down, they are taking a 360-degree turn.

YF: This poor excuse for a minister has finally admitted that it is okay for Suaram to have foreign funding as Umno itself gets more foreign funding than the NGO.

So why the double standard, Nazri? ‘Cakap tak serupa bikin' (Say one thing and do another) - that should have been Umno's slogan for their closed-door Merdeka celebrations.

P Dev Anand Pillai: Therefore, if there is no law against receiving foreign funds, then Suaram should not be harassed at all.

It is clear, when it comes to Umno, there are no laws, but when it comes to others who are not with Umno, there are all sort of laws.

The moral of the story - Umno can receive foreign funds, but Suaram cannot.

Ong: MPs are lawmakers. Yet our BN MPs don't know that there is no law against companies and organisations receiving funds from foreign sources. Indeed, we have a bunch of idiots and clowns as legislators.

Ipohcrite: Nazri's statement is meant to put Umno in the clear regarding the RM40 million scandal.

If someone hadn't pointed out the RM40 million allegedly meant for the Sabah CM, Nazri and Umno, as well as Perkasa and other pro-BN clowns, would still be making a circus out of harassing Suaram and other well-meaning NGOs.

Well, it looks like the big top is coming down once again on these clowns.

Hibiscus: Nazri and BNM (Bank Negara Malaysia) governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, is there a law barring anyone from bringing in a lot of hard cash into the country without first obtaining clearance from BNM, like the RM40 million smuggled into Sabah?

If permission has not been obtained from BNM, shouldn't court action be taken against the smuggler - Umno Sabah?

20121221Disaster: When it came to Suaram's small amount of foreign funds (which were audited and reported to the Companies Commission of Malaysia), the authorities went hard against the NGO.

But when it comes to a huge amount of foreign funds (RM40 million allegedly smuggled into the country) for Umno, suddenly the authorities said there is no law against receiving foreign funds.

Unspin: Nazri, we all know that there is no law barring organisations from receiving foreign aid but there is a law against carrying an unreasonable amount of cold hard cash in and out of the country.

So, what are you going to do about it?

Anonymous_40bb: Our law minister is supposed to help identify laws that this country need when situation arises. In this case, he acts like a lawyer defending his client.
