PKR has lodged a report against Transport Minister Kong Cho and former transport minister Chan Kong Choy with the MACC today over the award of the Automated Enforcement System (AES) contract to an alleged crony.

NONE Its central committee member Chang Lih Kang ( right ) who filed the report, said that these ministers were responsible for awarding and defending the contract respectively to Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd for installing the AES cameras.

"However, a search by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) showed that this company is a dormant company," said Chang in a statement.

"The company does not have any expertise in installing AES cameras but has relied on an Australian company named Redflex Traffic Systems Ptd Ltd in technical matters."

Accompanying Chang were Pakatan members and NGOs opposed to the Automated Enforcement System (AES) project.

Chang reiterated that Beta Tegap's largest shareholder Rozana Redzuan's parents have links to Umno: her late father was the former Umno Johor division chief and former state assemblyperson of Peserai Johor, Redzuan Salim and her mother, Atkah Abdullah, was former deputy chief of Wanita Umno Johor.

"How can the Ministry of Transport award a contract worth hundreds of millions to a dormant company that has no expertise in that area  not for the close relationship between Umno and Beta Tegap?" Chang said in his report.

Chang had on Nov 5 alleged that the largest shareholder of AES' two contractors is linked to Johor Umn o .

NONE On Nov 8, Kong denied that link , saying that the award was made before his appointment as the present transport minister.

Beta Tegap also denied the allegation of Umno links and slammed Chang for "speaking ill of the dead" explaining that Redzuan, the late father of Beta Tegap's largest shareholder Rozana, was indeed an Umno member but had passed away 12 years ago.

However, Chang countered that the company "was conveniently silent" on Redzuan's wife, Atkah, who was also a two-term state assemblyperson of Sri Medan, Johor.
