Former home minister Syed Hamid Albar said he was not aware that his successor Hishammudin Hussein had meddled in the internal affairs of the police as alleged by former inspector-general of police (IGP) Musa Hassan.

"That I am not aware of it. As far as I know police have their powers under the act. They exercise them under the act... If there is policy (issue) they (will) come back to us (ministry), we are supposed to (deal with it)," Syed Hamid ( right ) replied when asked about the allegation at the sidelines of the Umno general assembly today.

"I cannot interpret what (Musa said), certain words, I don't know what exactly he meant by it. I leave it like that.

"Because as far as I know during my service and previous experience, police had done wonderful job in law enforcement, keeping law and order.

"And Musa has good track record, so leave it like that, let's not spoil it," said the Kota Tinggi MP.

pak lah umno agm 2009 pc 270309 Musa spent most his tenure as IGP from 2006 to 2010 under Syed Hamid, who was home minister from 2008 to 2009.

Meanwhile, former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (left) denied knowledge of Musa’s allegations.

“I wouldn't know. Tak ingat lah, tak ingat (I don’t remember),” he said when asked, also at the sidelines of the assembly.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Musa had claimed that Hishammuddin interfered with the police force during his tenure by giving instructions to his subordinates without this knowledge.

He added that Hishammuddin was unhappy when he reminded the home minister that under the Police Act 1967, the police force is under the IGP’s control and not the minister.
