The recent outburst by former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan against the prime minister and the home minister "is just another sandiwara ", says former Kuala Lumpur CID chief Mat Zain Ibrahim.

Mat Zain said he initially thought that Musa's statements were for real, that Musa had possibly repented and wanted to help take the police force back to its former glory.

NONE "Recently, Musa ( right ) made several comments against cabinet ministers and the Umno leadership, but he maintained there was no interference in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder investigations.

"He also said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was not involved and there was no conspiracy to set up Anwar in both the Sodomy I and II cases.

"I then realised that Musa's outburst, or whatever you call it, was just another 'sandiwara'," Mat Zain added.

He said Musa simply pretended to be acting against the top cabinet leaders and the Umno leadership, but in reality he was protecting certain people, in particular attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.

Musa should realise that it would not be difficult to test the sincerity of a person and while he may not have been involved in the Altantuya murder investigations, he, as a former investigating officer and having been in charge of criminal investigation, should be able to discern a cover-up.

"Having dealt with both Musa and Gani, I know what these two are capable of," Mat Zain said, without mincing his words.

Tell the truth about black-eye

He went on to warn that criminal conspiracy and concealing a crime are serious offences.

NONE Musa has withdrawn his defamation suit against Anwar over the infamous "black-eye incident", where the former deputy prime minister made a police report saying evidence for the Sodomy I trial was fabricated by Gani ( left ), Musa, Dr Abdul Rahman Yusof and Mat Zain himself.

Mat Zain pointed out that Dr Abdul Rahman is the same medical officer who was roped in by former attorney-general Mohtar Abdullah to examine former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik in his statutory rape case, about which everybody knows the outcome.

"Hence Abdul Rahman is not a stranger to Gani, who called the doctor in to help in the black-eye investigations."

"I state, yet again, that I am willing to declare under oath in any judicial proceeding or before any judge that there was indeed an agreement between Gani and Musa to use Dr Abdul Rahman to fabricate the three so called special reports on the injuries Anwar received while in police custody in 1998.

"I am prepared to produce all the three fabricated reports for inspection. The first report by Dr Abdul Rahman was prepared despite eight other Hospital Kuala Lumpur doctors having already examined and prepared their reports on Anwar," Mat Zain added.

Copies of the three medical reports prepared by Abdul Rahman have been provided to Malaysiakini .

Challenge to Musa

"Show the reports to Musa. I challenge him to explain how these three reports came about and his role behind the reports.

"If he has been bragging that he dares make revelations, even if these involve ministers or even the PM, then he should prove his words by giving a public explanation over this," Mat Zain said.

"If Musa refuses to accept this challenge, then the people can then judge him and decide whether he is an ordinary human being or Satan in disguise."

Mat Zain said the people must not forget that Musa had in fact admitted "to stealing" Anwar's blood sample from HKL on Oct 15, 1998, and tested it for DNA.

Musa had, in an interview with Malaysiakini earlier this year, admitted taking Anwar's blood sample, which the eight doctors had initially taken for HIV testing.

Dr Zahari Noor of HKL complained in court, during Anwar's abuse of power trial, that the blood sample was forcibly taken away by the police and hence the evidence on the mattress and the DNA were rejected in the trial.

Mat Zain in an interview with Malaysiakini had questioned Musa's action in retrieving the blood sample if he had concluded his investigations and Anwar had already been charged with Sodomy I.

Mat Zain also questioned whether Musa would do a repeat of private investigator P Balasubramaniam's action and retract his earlier statements to Malaysiakini .

He said he had been prepared to tell all in Musa's civil suit against Anwar, for which he had been called as a witness by both parties.

"The matter could have been over then, but Musa chickened out at the last minute and instead twisted the facts by claiming he and Anwar agreed to make an out-of-court settlement. That's another blatant lie by Musa."

Citing a Malay proverb, "Dah sampai nak masuk liang lahat pun nak menipu lagi" (You are prepared to lie even as you are about to enter the grave).

Mat Zain said while both Musa and Gani knew very well whether Musa's suit was withdrawn with or without Anwar's agreement, the fact remained that by dropping his suit, Musa had admitted to filing a false claim, which could be considered an abuse of the court process.

"The withdrawal does not absolve Musa of criminal culpability," Mat Zain added.

Footnote:

Gani Patail appointed Dr Abdul Rahman Yusof sometime in October 1998 and Mat Zain protested to this appointment. Nevertheless, the first 'fabricated' medical report was tendered. Mohtar Abdullah then officially appointed Rahman again, and Rahman produced two other reports
