Both DAP and MCA has called on Putrajaya to refund individuals who have paid fines issued under the Automated Enforcement System (AES), now that all related court cases are frozen.

NONE According to The Star , MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek ( right ) said that the government must devise a mechanism to reimburse those who have already already paid.

This follows the Attorney-General Chamber's decision to freeze all court proceedings related to summonses issued by the AES.

In Penang, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the government should not only refund those who have paid the fines, but also cancel all the summonses issued under the system.

Lim urged Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha to "atone" for his support of the AES by directing the authorities to cancel the authorities.

“The BN government should not just withhold the prosecution of summons under the AES but admit that Pakatan Rakyat was right (about) abolishing the AES,” said Lim.

NONE Lim ( left ) speculated that it was likely that the 300,000 summonses issued since September in just 14 locations has caused discontent against BN and attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail was now trying to soften the blow.

Yesterday, Abdul Gani said that his prosecutors are "withholding" the court proceedings to address "legal issues and other technicalities" related to the AES.

Chua also lambasted Abdul Gani for "backpedalling" and he should have raised these issues before the AES was implemented.

“I am sure the government had obtained views from the AG's Chambers before they rolled out the AES... So, why didn't the AG raise any concern at that time? Why now?

“I am sure the AG then gave his okay and now, has backpedalled," he said.
