Human rights activist Haris Ibrahim has challenged lawyer Cecil Abraham to sue him to clear his name.

NONE Haris ( left ), who is also a lawyer, had previously lodged complaints to the Bar Council, urging it to investigate Cecil for professional misconduct in preparing private investigator P Balasubramaniam’s second statutory declaration (SD2).

“Tell you what, if the Bar Council is taking too long even for your own liking, I’ll offer you a way out to clear your name. Sue me,” he wrote in his blog today.

He noted that Balasubramaniam’s lawyer Americk Sidhu had expressed reservations that Cecil could have been involved.

“If Americk has been spot on, it seems a tad unkind on the part of (Bar Council president) Lim Chee Wee and the rest of the council to drag their feet in this matter and not avail to you the swiftest opportunity to clear yourself,” he said.

In Balasubramaniam’s SD2, he retracted parts of this first statutory declaration signed a day earlier that linked Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to murdered Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Malaysiakini has attempted to reach Cecil for comment since last month but has yet to receive a response.
