Information Department director-general Ibrahim Abdul Rahman has denied issuing any statement on Najib Abdul Razak’s resignation as prime minister, saying its online systems is believed to have been hacked.

NONE He said the statement announcing Najib's resignation appeared in the department’s e-Akhbar and e-Press systems and the news was quickly picked up and disseminated via several social networking sites this morning.

In a hastily issued statement today, Ibrahim ( left ) said the Information Department has taken immediate steps to remove two false statements from the compromised systems - Memo Permohonan Rakyat Malaysia (Malaysia Citizen Application Memo) and PM secara rasminya meletak jawatan (PM officially resigns).

“This early measure is taken to avoid any dissemination (of the false information) by irresponsible parties, which will then cause confusion among the people.

“A probe by the Information Department is under way,” the statement reads.

Ibrahim added that the department has lodged a police report and has handed the matter to the police to investigate.

However, the director-general did not detail the contents of the falsified statements and Malaysiakini was at this time not able to trace these statements, which are said to be disseminating online.
