Najib Abdul Razak can no longer be considered the legitimate prime minister given that it has been more than five years since the last general election, noted veteran lawmaker Lim Kit Siang.

"March 9 is an important date because from this day on, we have a prime minister that is not legitimate," Lim said during a Selangor Pakatan Rakyat rally in Shah Alam last night.

"He will be remembered as a prime minister without a mandate for the longest period... He is afraid to call for elections," added Lim.

"This is a new record. Not just in Malaysia, but it will also enter the Guiness Book of Record."

This, argued Lim, had caused Malaysians to be in "election mode" over the past four years, which he said was probably another world record.

The Lahad Datu blame game

Meanwhile, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim told the 5,000-strong crowd that the federal government is trying to put him in jail by claiming that he had instigated the ongoing Sabah incursion.

"To me, the media is trying to slandar me with the Lahad Datu issue. Maybe they are trying to bring me there.

The event, held at Dataran Kemerdekaan, was to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the March 8, 2008 watershed election.

Among others speakers were Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Selangor PAS chief Abdul Rani Osman.
