Hindraf chief P Waythamoorthy has ended his hunger strike at a temple in Rawang today after he passed out following three weeks of not eating solid food.

NONE "Waythamoorthy (left) collapsed around 4pm today, while trying to get to the bathroom," confirmed Hindraf coordinator W Sambulingam when contacted.

Sambulingam said the movement's chief was admitted to Damai Service Hospital on Jalan Ipoh for observation.

"He is under observation because his sugar level is very low and his blood pressure is very high," he said.

At 9pm, Hindraf adviser N Ganesan informed Malaysiakini that Waythamoorthy has ended his hunger strike.

Today was supposed to be the 22nd day of Waythamoorthy's hunger strike in a bid to garner support for Hindraf's blueprint to uplift the Indian poor.

Yesterday, Hindraf leaders expressed concern about Waythamoorthy's health as he remained adamant on continuing with his hunger strike.

Karpal called for end to hunger strike

Also, DAP chairperson Karpal Singh had yesterday called on the Hindraf leader to cease his hunger strike and return to the negotiation table with Pakatan Rakyat.

Hindraf has lobbied for both Pakatan Rakyat and BN to endorse its blueprint.

However, talks between Hindraf and Pakatan broke down after Pakatan refused to endorse the movement's blueprint.

PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim had said that the crux of Hindraf's blueprint was already in Pakatan's Buku Jingga and Pakatan did not want policies to be racial in nature.

Hindraf's talks with the BN are in the preliminary stage, starting with a meeting with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak last Monday.
