It's on, finally - Parliament dissolved today

your say Ferdtan: The guessing game still continues as to when GE13 will be held after the dissolution of Parliament as announced by the PM.

April 3 is the dissolution of Parliament. Give the Election Commission (EC) a day or two to receive the notice of dissolution. Then it will hold a meeting among the commissioners to fix a date for nominations of candidates as well the polling day.

Say EC makes the announcement on Monday, April 8. As such, the earliest for nomination day, usually on weekend, will either be April 13 (Saturday) or April 14 (Sunday).

The minimum campaign period is 10 days, a new requirement imposed by the EC in line with a recommendation by the parliamentary select committee on electoral reform.

Unless EC wants the election on a weekday, it will then be on April 24 (Wednesday). If it is to be on a weekend, then the date will be either on April 27 (Saturday) or April 28 (Sunday).

Fellows, the earliest day will be at the end of this month. Or as most punters say it will be the first week of May.

JMC: The long awaited moment has finally come. The PM has finally found the courage to dissolve the Parliament.

It is encouraging that Najib has promised that there will be a peaceful transition of power should there be a change in government after the 13th general election.

His statement, "We respect democracy, we are committed to our political transformation, we are committed to respect the voice of the rakyat", is very reassuring and gentlemanly.

We hope that he will be able to ensure such a peaceful transition if the need arises. That is what the people want and that is what he must fulfill.

RR: The party that all Malaysians should vote is one that advocates and implements a corruption-free government (including vote-buying), abhors racism, condemns religious fanaticism, practices meritocracy, treats all as equal citizens, and looks after the welfare of all the poor and minorities.

This is the party that all right-thinking citizens should vote for.

Black Mamba: The feeling of change is so strong you can smell it in the air. Everyone you speaks to are voting for the opposition in urban areas.

The PM himself already conceded defeat in his speech when he assured of a smooth transition of power.

Caripasal: Civil servants are free to vote for their preferred candidates in the coming election as the BN government is only a caretaker government with the dissolution of the Parliament. We hope they will vote without fear.

KSD: Every five years or so, BN 'allows' citizens to 'choose' the next government 'democratically'.

Through a mixture of gerrymandering, widespread use of non-Malaysian ‘instant citizens', postal ballots, outright extortion of civil servants and clever pitting of races against one another, BN has managed to rule for 50 over years.

This time around, they are slightly vulnerable. The fixed deposits in Sabah and Sarawak are shaky. The various races appear to be united in their desire for change.

The new media has uncovered many scandals that would have remained hidden. Ini kali lah ! as the opposition says. If Malaysians miss this chance, it will mean another 50 years of BN dictatorship. Think and vote wisely.

Quigonbond: This will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of BN's two-thirds majority, now it will see the end of the BN government.

Alexzander Johnson: So finally he decides to call for the dissolution (oops, or was it last year?). It was quite sad to see him dissolve the Parliament with a stressed look, not knowing if he will be given the mandate to lead the nation after the GE.

Nevertheless, I am quite sure GE13 will be the dirtiest in the history of Malaysia. I'm eager to see all the drama that is about to unfold.

Fair Play: The power is in our hands. For all right-thinking Malaysians who want a better future, GE13 would be the definitive general election to chart the destiny of generations yet to come.

OMG!!: Yes, bring it on. Malaysians must come out in full force to vote to prevent their fate from being decided by all the phantom voters and illegal immigrants who were granted citizenship.
