Caretaker de facto law minister Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz today welcomed "principled" ex-PKR Zulkifli Noordin, who is contesting on a BN ticket in the Shah Alam parliamentary seat.

"He is a winnable candidate," said Nazri at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

He added that he has always liked Zulkifli personally, calling the Perkasa vice-president a good speaker, a good politician, a good principled man and one who can draw crowds and gain support for the coalition.

azlan While he had been a PKR member, Nazri said that Zulkifli has left the opposition on a matter of principle and is now a free agent.

“Unlike the other side, we are not in the business of taking away an MP who contested under their logo,” Nazri explained, alluding to Pakatan who had acquired two sitting Sabah BN MPs to join the state opposition.

As for fielding a candidate who is not a party member, Nazri said that there is nothing wrong with it as it is regular practice even by the other side.

“Even PKR, PAS and DAP allow those who are not party members to run under their banner,” reasoned the incumbent Padang Rengas MP.

Yesterday, Selangor BN liaison chief Najib Abdul Razak had announced the former PAS and PKR member as the 'Friends of BN' candidate for the Shah Alam parliamentary seat, to mixed reactions from both sides of the political divide.

While now a regular face at BN ceramahs and staunchly anti-opposition, the vocal Zulkifli had ruffled many feathers with his sometimes caustic speeches.

Just weeks ago, he received brickbats and was labelled a racist over a video showing him poking fun of Hindu followers and their gods.
