The police are looking for five people in their 20s and 30s who assaulted and seriously injured two men putting up political party flags for the 13th general election along Jalan Perak in George Town yesterday.

A spokesperson for the 13th General Election Penang Police Contingent, ACP Roslee Chik, said the group assaulted the two men, aged 21 and 53, with crash helmets and sticks.

“The two men were badly injured in the head and face and had to be given more than 20 stitches. The 53-year-old man lapsed into a coma yesterday but is in stable condition today,” he told reporters.

Roslee appealed to eyewitnesses to contact any police station.
