Umno Wanita said today its election machinery was in no way affected by the decision of its vice-head Kamilia Ibrahim to contest as an Independent for the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat in the 13th general election.

NONE Expressing her disappointment with Kamilia, Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil ( left ) said the movement had long been prepared for the election, including the possibility of unexpected situations.

"I've determined and updated the 'Jentera Jalinan Rakyat' (JJR) machinery and taught them to work hard, with commitment and loyalty throughout any challenges, including not being able to contest.

"They must be sincere, selfless and patient in their struggle and the JJR must move with discipline, no matter who betrays the party for their own interests," she said in a statement today.

Shahrizat said currently the Kuala Kangsar JJR will be led by Umno Wanita division deputy chief Nor Rizan Subehi, who will be acting as Kuala Kangsar Umno Wanita chief.

She said Kamilia had clearly violated the Umno and BN disciplinary regulations and will face stern action to be announced by the party's chairperson and deputy chairperson on Monday.

She also thanked the Kuala Kangsar Umno Wanita for showing undivided loyalty to the party in this challenging time.

Today, Kamilia sprang a surprise when she filed nomination papers to contest as an Independent candidate for the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat, using the symbol of a book, and will face BN candidate Wan Mohammad Khair-Il Anuar Wan Ahmad and Dr Khalil Idham Lim of PAS.

Kamilia voiced her disappointment, saying that the BN was not fielding Umno Wanita top leaders for the general election.

In response, BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak said Kamilia had rejected an offer to contest the Bukit Chandan state seat because she wanted to contest the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat.
