Ten Pakatan Rakyat candidates in Penang who lost in the 13th general election have lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, alleging that graft had been involved.

Spokesperson and Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin said seven had contested in seats on the island and three on the mainland. The10 comprise two PAS and eight PKR candidates.

"We are lodging the report according to Section 10 of the Election Offences Act which is related to corruption, before, during and after elections that could affect the results on polling day," he told reporters outside the MACC office in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Last Friday, Penang PKR vice-chairperson Abdul Halim Hussein and Sim had lodged a report with the Election Commission on the same matter.

The PKR leaders have visited the location where lucky draws were said to have been conducted in Bayan Baru and Balik Pulau from Friday up to Sunday.

NONE Abdul Halim claimed that the cash handout ranged from RM160 to RM200, depending on the constituency.

Sim ( centre of photo ) said the public who are involved in the 'Lucky Draw Bonus' were informed via text-message as to where to pick up their prizes.

"Some were given wrong information. When they went there, the place was closed, so they came to us to complain," he said.

Sim showed reporters a list of odds placed against constituencies, with highest (20) being in Ayer Puteh and 10 in Bagan - the state and parliamentary seats by the DAP's Lim Guan Eng - and the lowest (2) in several places like Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor, which were contested by PAS.

Voters had a chance to claim between RM40 and RM400 if the Pakatan candidate lost.

"Those from constituencies where Pakatan won can't get any money," Sim said.

"This is a very clear case of efforts to manipulate the election results. Where does this money come from? Is it legal or illegal? We hope the MACC will probe this thoroughly."

Vouchers for redemption

PKR’s Balik Pulau candidate Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik said BN voters were told they could redeem vouchers ranging in value from RM50 to RM250.

"Vouchers were distributed before the election, (recipients) were promised the money if BN wins in their constituencies," Bakhtiar said in a text-message.

NONE "We went to the centre where they disburse the money, the persons in charge runaway with laptops [sic] .”

DAP’s Ayer Itam assemblyperson Wong Hon Wai ( right in photo ) has lodged reports with the police and MACC on alleged vote-buying activities in his constituency.

"The MACC just told us that the matter is under observation. No witnesses have been called and no arrests have been made," said a frustrated Wong.

"If they don't take any action, then such activities will occur on a bigger scale since (those involved) are not afraid of doing it in broad daylight, even in front of video cameras.”
