The police force should start investigatingn the incidents that took place during the May 22 candlelight vigil in Jinjang for student activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim.

They should be doing this, instead of handing out appreciation letters to officers on duty that day and were said to have been  verbally abused by the participants, said lawyer Sivamalar Genapathy.

"The police are supposed to investigate what actually happened that night," Sivamalar said today, referring to an incident that night in which lawyer Fadiah Nadwa Fikri was allegedly kicked by a police officer.

NONE "A female lawyer was kicked, but it is a police officer who gets an appreciation award," Sivamalar ( left in picture ) lamented.

She was responding to a photograph of her pointing a finger, angrily, at Constable Muhalim Osop during the vigil.

It was taken by Utusan Malaysia photographer, Izham Jaafar, and had been used as the basis for Muhalim to be handed an appreciation letter from the force for having “acted professionally” while on duty that night.

Sivamalar made the call this morning, after a press conference with Subang MP R Sivarasa.

Sivarasa was interrogated for almost an hour at the Tropicana police station in Merchant Square, Petaling Jaya, by two officers from the Sentul police district headquarters in relation to his presence at the vigil on May 22.

'A waste of police's time'

Sivarasa said he was informed by the police that he was being investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 (PAA).

However, he considers the interrogation a waste of police time, and a move that was politically motivated.

NONE "For me, they are all aware of what happened that night, because not just one or two people attended the vigil that night; many did, and officers even had video cameras to record what was happening," he noted.

"If a senior police officer needs to waste his time with this matter, I am worried that the crime rate will never be reduced," Sivarasa added.

    

He stressed that even if Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi ( right ) denies that he issued any instructions to the police to investigate Pakatan Rakyat politicians, the people would not believe Zahid.

"He (Zahid) can repeat his denial as many times as he wants to, but nobody will believe him," he said, adding that he does not know if he would be charged in court after this.
