Details of C Sugumar’s second post-mortem will be withheld from the public as the family fears government interference, their lawyer N Surendran said in an interview with Malaysiakini yesterday at the PKR headquarters.

“As far as Sugumar’s case is concerned, (Thai pathologist) Dr Pornthip (Rojanasunand) is still barred, so we are trying another alternative to do the second post-mortem.”

Surendran ( right ) said he feared the government would try to “sabotage it again” just like when Pornthip had been called in to conduct a second autopsy, she later retracted her services on the advice of the Thai government.

He will, however, announce it soon as he and his team of experts  working “urgently” on it complete the task .

Pornthip was previously engaged by the Selangor government for her expertise in the controversial death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock found dead on July 15, 2009, on the fifth floor of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Shah Alam after plunging from the 14th floor.

NONE It was later revealed that the Thai Ministry of Justice had in an internal report expressed concern that Pornthip's ( left ) involvement may court the displeasure of the Malaysian government.

Sugumar, 39 - who died of alleged police brutality on Jan 23 - was found in the bushes, his hands bound behind his back and face smeared with turmeric an hour after having a drink in Hulu Langat, Kajang.

His body still remains in the Serdang Hospital mortuary, awaiting a second autopsy.

Sugumar’s case is among several others linked to allegations of police brutality, namely 22-year-old A Kugan , Beng Hock and Customs officer Ahmad Sarbaini Mohamed .
