Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied a claim by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang that he is out to de-register the DAP.

NONE Zahid ( left ) instead chided Lim for making such allegations and being so jumpy about the matter.

"Who is Lim Kit Siang? I don't know who he is," he joked.

When reminded that Lim is also Gelang Patah MP, he said: "No (I'm not threatening deregistration). Why is he so scared?

"Face me in Parliament and ask me more questions. I'm willing to reply. And don't make allegations on Facebook . It's not a brave thing (to do).”

The DAP is being investigated by the Registrar of Societies - an agency under the Home Ministry - over the validity of its December party leadership elections.

Meanwhile, Zahid said that he supports proposals by some within Umno that the posts of party president and deputy president not be contested in the coming Umno elections.

“I am all for that. We need both of them to lead us,” said Zahid, who is an Umno vice-president.

Umno president Najib Abdul Razak, after chairing the first Umno supreme council meeting last week, had implied that he is open to a challenge for the party post.

Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi made this proposal for the same reason, while Negri Sembilan Umno wants the two top posts to be uncontested to better prepare the party for the 14th general election.
