Information about Human Resources Minister Richard Riot's academic qualifications was obtained from a government website and are not "made up facts", DAP's Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming said today.

NONE Ong ( left ) said yesterday that Richard and another minister have "fake degrees" because the universities they obtained their degrees from were "degree mills."

Richard later refuted the allegation, saying he went to the Hertfordshire University and not the American institution Ong had referred to.

Ong today produced a screenshot from the website of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, where Richard had been deputy minister in the previous term of Parliament, in which Richard's qualification was listed as from the said American institution in Preston.

"We call upon the minister to explain why the Foreign Affairs Ministry - where he was the deputy minister for a number of years in the previous Parliament - would list down his qualifications as such," he said.

NONE Ong noted that he was "prepared" to face any necessary legal action from Richard ( right ), who had hinted at the possibility of taking legal action against the DAP parliamentarian.

"We are prepared. We will face it," Ong said.

"This is not something that we made up. We are only basing this on the entry in a ministry website."

Meanwhile, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Ewon Ebin - when approached by KiniTV for comments - said he is seeking legal opinion over the matter.

“I am seeking legal opinion on those people making out that sort of word. That is my comment,” he told KiniTV .

Ong had yesterday alleged that the minister had obtained a dubious doctorate in Business Administration from the Golden State University in Wyoming, United States.

He further claimed that following the revelations, the ministry has removed Ewon’s qualification in the website.
