NONE PARLIAMENT Pakatan Rakyat is proposing that the acceptance of the 13th general election results be removed from the Dewan Rakyat’s note of thanks to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim (right) said that, while Pakatan accepts the other parts of the note, it believes that not removing the part on the acceptance of the election results would render meaningless the election petitions that have been filed.

Both Pakatan and the BN have filed election petitions to challenge the May 5 election results in several parliamentary and state constituencies.

"There are election petitions. So we ask for that part not to be included," Anwar told a press conference after a Pakatan leadership council meeting in Parliament House today.

"If it is included, then it would be meaningless to submit election petitions," he added.

NONE The Agong, in his address when opening the 13th session of Parliament two weeks ago, urged all parties to accept the election results.

Anwar said the Pakatan leadership committee would discuss the matter further before submitting an amendment, which he said could be expected later today or tomorrow.

Opposition members were last week accused by their BN counterparts of disrespecting the Agong by not stating their acceptance of the election results.

However, Anwar stressed that the culture is to debate the motion of thanks for the Royal Address and that the government had prepared the text of the Agong’s speech.
