A judgment-in-default order issued against PAS last May on a defamation suit filed by the Kemaman Municipal Council (MPK) was set aside by the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today.

NONE PAS lawyer Norazmir Zakaria ( right ) told Malaysiakini that High Court judge Rosilah Yop granted the Islamic party’s application to set aside the order.

Last May, the municipal council obtained a judgment in default after PAS failed to enter an appearance.

The council had filed a suit against PAS in March, seeking RM5 million in damages from the party, which it claimed distributed pamphlets containing false and defamatory words on the Bukit Takal Zoo in Terengganu and on the Chukai assemblyperson allegedly taking a five-acre land area.

In the earlier proceedings, PAS failed to enter its appearance on two occasions, despite being ordered to do so, resulting in the judgment in default order  being issued by the High Court in Kuala Lumpur.
