5.40pm: NGO Majlis Belia Malaysia (MBM) has denied distributing flyers supporting PAS' '16:16' slogan, saying that it does not endorse its message.

The flyers, which read, "Realise the spirit of united Malays (between) Umno and PAS: 16-16; one government," were purportedly endorsed by 'Malay NGOs' such as Perkasa, Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS), Pekida and MBM.

However, MBM vice-president Manndzri Nasib said his NGO is in fact non-partisan and its 41 coalition members include Chinese Malaysian and Indian Malaysian youth groups.

"We just hope an election that is as fair as possible and that the Election Commission (EC) conducts itself properly," he said at a press conference today.

MBM is one of the election observers at the Kuala Besut by-election sanctioned by the EC.

2pm:

PAS Youth gives free petrol to motorcyclists at the Kampung Nail Caltex petrol station.

The event lasts for three hours beginning at 12 noon. It's open to motorbikers aged 21 years and above.

"We do not force people who take this offer to vote for us. Even BN supporters are eligible. This is to promote our concept of the welfare state," PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan told reporters.

When Malaysiakini visited the station, motorcyclists were flocking to refuel their bikes.

PAS also took the opportunity to distribute biodata of its candidate to those waiting in line.

1.44pm: The media was told that Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has cancelled all his programmes here today.

According to the Communication and Multimedia Ministry media centre's Whatapps message to the media personnel, the last-minute cancellation is because the BN deputy president is feeling unwell.

Muhyiddin is suppose to go to Taman Tasek, in Kampung Nail at 4pm today, to handover the house key to a resident Ramli Jusoh as his house was destroyed in a fire in May.

The project was first announced by Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan when he visited to Kuala Besut on July 14.

12:40pm: In a press conference today, PAS claims goodies given by the BN government for this campaign is worth RM476.19 million.

PAS central committee member Dr Dzulkefli Ahmad said this amount was determined after going through the mainstream and alternative media.

"With a total of 17.683 voters, the value of one ballot has reached RM27,000. This stands with the highest in history," he said.

Dr Dzulkefli, the PAS research center director, also said that based on their study, PAS candidate Yusof Azlan has the advantage of being known by almost 70 percent of voters in Kuala Besut .

12.35pm

: PAS Besut division chief Wan Azhar Wan Ahmad lodged a police report this morning over a false text message wanting voters at Kampung Baru to collect their tithe payment at the PAS candidate’s house.

Wan Azhar at a press conference this morning said 15 people came to his house in Kampung Raja asking about the tithe payment and he was shocked by the spreading of the false SMS.

The false text message states: "Voters in Kampung Baru who want to vote or say prayers to Che Long tonight, Che Long would want to distribute tithe for Ramadhan and the coming Hari Raya - Wan Azhar."

"When I check the number, it was sent through my handphone. This means that my number has been cloned. There were many text messages sent... this is a devious plan done by irresponsible parties in this by-election," he said.

12.30pm : PAS central committee member Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad described the claims made by three Terengganu PKR general election candidates that they will sue PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for defaming them is not an issue in the Kuala Besut by-election.

"Can we talk about this after the campaign... I do not want to give any comment on this issue.

"Let us wait for the PAS leaders to comment on it as this matter is not one of the main issues in the Kuala Besut by-election," he said.
