Penangites woke up to the news of another shooting incident today, which occurred around midnight at an entertainment outlet along Jalan Dato' Keramat.

This brings the number of such cases to three since yesterday. In the first incident, ten close range gunshots riddled a man's body along Jalan Anson while in the second, several shots were fired at a house in Jalan Utama while the owner was away.

In the latest incident, a 43-year-old bouncer at the outlet was shot seven times with one round hitting his thigh.

The police said that the victim is believed to be an active member of a local gang but without any criminal record.

According to George Town police chief ACP Gan Kon Meng, when the victim alighted from his car, a man appeared at the scene and opened fire.

"The victim was taken to the Penang General Hospital and his condition is stable," he said.

Gan said police found seven bullet casings at the crime scene, with one bullet hitting a Perodua Myvi parked nearby.

He added that witnesses heard gunshots and saw a light-skinned man pointing his gun and opening fire while the victim and his friend  tried to bolt when they were hit.

Gan said the suspect then fled on a motorcycle without a number plate. CCTV recording showed that he was alone and wore a black helmet.

He added that the police are still probing the motive behind the incident and urged those with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
