Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) president Akhbar Satar today said that the media should stop finding fault with police conduct.

Speaking as one of the panel members during a forum on crime organised by the National Professors’ Council, Akhbar said that the media should be helping the authorities instead.

azlan “The media has been sensationalising to portray as if there’s too much crime in this country,” he said during the question and answer session.

A member of the audience had earlier suggested that the media should merely accept facts given by police and not be allowed to make their own interpretation when it came to crime.

“I feel we need to think about the nation, be patriotic and help the police,” Akhbar said.

He said that he had never heard of people thanking the police for their work and as such the people must start being grateful to the police.

“No one says thanks. So we should start saying thanks because of them, we are safe, but we take for granted, so we pretend like we don’t know (their contribution),” he said.

“By right, we should be highlighting these (achievements) and give confidence to the police,” he added.

“Just imagine if the entire police force went on strike for a day, the country has be to closed,” he said.
