The cabinet has yet to discuss and decide on increase in toll rates for 10 highways in the Klang Valley, a Works Ministry spokesperson said.

As such, he said, the rates which have been circulating virally online and on instant messenger application Whatsapp, are "not true".

"However, every year the concessionaires will submit proposals for toll rate hikes as per the concession agreement, and the cabinet will deliberate on it," he told Malaysiakini.

The spokesperson added that Works Minister Fadillah Yusof is likely to make an official statement on the matter next week.

The viral message among others said that 10 highways will have their toll rates increased by as low as 40 sen to as high as RM1.00.

The highways include the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Damansara Puchong Expressway (LDP), Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (Akleh), Western KL Traffic Dispersial System (Sprint) and the Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Maju Expresway (Mex).
