A slab of meat, believed to be pork, had reportedly been hurled into the entrance of the Cherok Tokun mosque in Machang Bubuk this morning.

According to state CID chief Mazlan Kesah, he said the suspect is believed to have used the main road and allegedly threw the meat at the venue at about 5.30am.

Deputy imam Saad Arop, 78, said as he was entering the mosque at about 5.30am to perform his dawn prayers, he saw a slab of meat at the entrance of the area.

"He lodged a report because he felt dissatisfied with the incident and suspects that it is pork," said Mazlan in a text message reply about the incident.

"This is the first time it has happened at the mosque. He does not suspect anyone," Mazlan stressed.

Mazlan said police are probing the case under Section 295 of the Penal Code which involves injuring or defiling a place of worship with the intention of insulting a religion.

Inspector Nurul Farahida received the report lodged by Saad in Machang Bubuk at 7.19am.

Mazlan noted that there are no CCTV recordings within the area, the nearest of which is situated several metres away from Permatang Pauh MP Anwar Ibrahim's ( left ) residence.

    

"The forensic department was present at the scene and the meat has been sent to the Bukit Minyak veterinary department for investigation," Mazlan said.

The incident comes a week after the Bukit Tengah police station had been attacked by fireworks, causing damage to the porch area and roof.

On Jan 26, five churches in Penang found banners with the words ‘Allah is great, Jesus is the son of Allah’ on their gates.

The following day, two Molotov cocktails were thrown into the Assumption Church, along Farquhar Street.

The incidents have since been condemned by several quarters for destroying racial and religious harmony.
