After the residents of certain areas of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor had suffered dry taps for more than a week, prime minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor has gone down to the ground to deliver free drinking water to the people.

Rosmah had visited low-cost flats at Taman Desa Baiduri, Cheras this afternoon to deliver bottles of water to the locals.

According to the press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office during the event, each household will be given two 5.5-litre bottles of drinking water.

The 6,500 bottles of water were sponsored by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas), Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) and Syarikat Giant Retail Malaysia.

Some 2,600 families in Taman Desa Baiduri and Taman Alam Damai will benefit under this programme.

Several areas in the Klang Valley are suffering from dry taps as a result of increased ammonia content in Sungai Langat, as well as the water reserves being at critical level due to the dry weather.

 

Among the worst hit areas is Balakong, while other affected areas include Serdang, Cheras, Pandan, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and certain parts of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.

According to a local resident, Taman Desa Baiduri had suffered a water shortage for the last 10 days and the water service only resumed today.

‘I’m not a politician, I’m just a housewife’

A group of girl guides had waited by the side of the road for one-and-a-half hours before the arrival of the VIP, who is president of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia.

Rosmah did not deliver a speech during the event. She only handed over the water to the residents and visited some families in some of the units.

Rosmah also refused to talk to the press after a Malaysiakini reporter was asked to identify himself.

“You can write all the lies you want. God bless you,” Rosmah told the reporter.

However, Rosmah maintained her stand although she was told that there were also reporters from other media organisations present.

“What do you want me to say? I’m not a politician, I’m just a housewife,” she said, before leaving the event.
