Five individuals have died while another four are in critical condition due to drug overdose while attending a concert at the Bukit Jalil stadium last night, the Star Online reported.

The nine reportedly consumed methamphetamine and collapsed at the grounds where the Future Music Festival Asia 2014 was taking place.

KL police chief Mohmad Salleh was quoted as saying that the final day of the concert, scheduled for tonight, has been cancelled.

The three-day concert was expected to attract over 80,000 fans to see a line-up of over 70 bands and artists.

The report said that one person died on the spot while another died while being rushed to the hospital.

Three others died at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM). All were Malaysians between the ages of 21 and 28.

"All tested positive for high levels of drugs and the deaths have been classified as overdose.

"Throughout the two days, we arrested 22 people, three foreigners and seven locals, in possession of narcotics.

"In view of this incident and for the interest of public safety, we have advised the organisers to cancel Saturday’s event. Those who bought tickets should contact the organisers for refunds," Salleh was quoted as saying.

Organisers dispute report

However, the concert organisers, Future Music Festival Asia 2014, have refuted the report and claimed that only one person died on the concert grounds.

"As at 5pm on March 15, we can confirm that one death, and not five, took place on festival grounds on March 14," FMFA said in a statement which was published on its Facebook page.

FMFA said that it had lodged a police report on the matter and would be working closely with authorities to "determine the cause" for the incident.

However, FMFA said that it would abide by the police's advice not to continue with the concert today.

"In the interest of public safety we have heeded the authority’s advice to not proceed with Day 3 of Future Music Festival Asia 2014," it said, also adding that details of the ticket refund would be announced within a week.

Meanwhile, PAS Federal Territories deputy youth leader Muhammad Farkhan issued a statement yesterday slamming the government's approval of the concert at a time when the nation is dealing with the MH370 incident and the haze crisis.

"This is an insolent act and does not respect the sensitivities of the Malaysian people," he said.
