A civil servant has been sacked for abuse of power and wastage highlighted in the 2012 Auditor-General’s Report tabled in Parliament last year.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamed (left) said that the case was among 121 probed by the civil service committee

However, he would not reveal the case that the sacking involved.

"This shows that the government, through the committee headed the chief secretary, is taking the matter seriously," he told reporters today.

He said that of the 92 cases which have been investigated, 41 individuals have been slapped with a surcharge, two have been fined while 32 were issued warnings.

"The remaining six are in the midst of disciplinary proceedings," he said.

The cases involve 152 individuals, but none have been taken to court to face criminal charges, he said.

Nur Jazlan said that cases of abuse of power and wastage only make up about a third of the cases highlighted in the  2012 report.

The bulk of these, 71 percent, involved processes and inefficiencies, he said, adding that he hopes the 2013 report will be better.
