The water level at the Taiping Headworks water treatment plant in Bukit Larut has not reached the normal level of 35 million litres per day to call off a scheduled water rationing exercise in Taiping and Kamunting.

State Public Utilities, Infrastructure, Energy and Water Committee chairperson Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin said a visit to the plant on Monday found that the water level had risen to nearly 30 million litres per day, but it was still insignificant.

“The water level is still insufficient despite the rain lately,” he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.

Zainol Fadzi said if the water level at the plant continued to rise by five million litres to reach 35 million litres or more, water rationing could be stopped before April 16.

“Consumers need to understand that with the rationing plan, they can still enjoy water supply for a longer period than without the plan, given the limited water supply,” he said.

He said the water rationing involved 23,719 consumers (user accounts) and implemented in Taiping and Kamunting, the first time in Perak’s water supply history, after the two areas received less rainfall.
