Tiger of Jelutong shall keep roaring in our hearts

YOURSAY ‘He’ll live on in the hearts of all who believe in a better Malaysia.’

Karpal killed in accident near Kampar

Swipenter: I salute veteran lawmaker Karpal Singh's ceaseless fight against authoritarianism and oppression in Bolehland since the 1970s until his sudden demise.

Not ISA nor political persecution and harassment nor a warped judiciary has ever deterred him to fight for democracy in Bolehland. He is indeed a true son and the one and only Karpal Singh of Bolehland.

Rest in peace for there would rise another to continue your struggle and vision for a free, united and democratic Bolehland.

My condolences to your family and loved ones. I feel sadness today but it is nothing compared to the great loss Bolehland suffers from losing one of its true and greatest sons. Long live Karpal Singh.

Anonymous_1371639972: He was a truly a towering Malaysian. In spite of the countless challenges, trials, incarcerations and even ridicule from his political enemies, Karpal remained indomitable, resolute and a fearless defender of the people.

History will judge him well and his name will be writ large when an honest account of our nation's history is written.

YB Karpal (together with DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang) was the model politician and representative that any Malaysian can wish for.

BTN: In this era where politicians are created, Karpal was one of the few who is a born politician.

Politicians that are created change their colours as and when they choose to, but a born politician is one who will never change and will stand by the rakyat no matter what.

Karpal has left us but he will never be forgotten. RIP the tiger of Jelutong.

Anonymous_1397678952: How tragic! He was a giant of a man. Many Malaysians would describe him as a courageous lawyer and one of the most honest and consistent of politicians.

His death is untimely. He had so much more to give. His death is a great loss to the nation. The opposition has indeed lost a charismatic leader. This is incredibly sad.

Relevancy: The Tiger of Jelutong had roared loud and proud and will continue to do so through the hearts and minds of the people whom he has given the courage to fight for what is worth fighting for.

Haveagreatday: You have fought the good fight. May you be well and happy always. Your memory will always be held in the same regards and respect as our beloved first prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Those Idiots: With all these years of service to the unfairly treated and disadvantaged groups of Malaysians, and your relentless pursuit of justice in our beloved motherland, in no time, there will be another 100 Karpal Singhs surfacing in our country to carry on your legacy.

All of us are indebted to you.

CYK: This is not a time to score political points. This is about a man's life so tragically cut short. It is a reminder to all of us to treasure every moment of our lives as well as with our loved ones.

What separates life and death may be just a fleet second. Live life fully but meaningfully and cut out the trivialities.

Rest in peace, Mr Karpal. You have etched yourself in the annals of Malaysia's history. You will not be forgotten. We shall miss you.

Abasir: If there ever is to be a Day of National Mourning in the truest sense of the term, this is the day.

A great warrior has left us, leaving us to fight injustice by ourselves. Malaysia has darkened further in all ways as the light that gave us courage and hope has been put out so suddenly.

Rubystar_4037: Karpal Singh, the king without a crown and a throne, but he was the king for the oppressed rakyat. May your soul rest in peace.

The PM has used the judiciary to hound this great man till the end of days. Karpal's passing will not be in vain and his sons will follow the footsteps of his father to lead the fight for the oppressed.

Pissed Off: A person of your stature don’t just die - you live on in the hearts and minds of all who believe in your struggle for a better Malaysia.

RakyatBiasa: Within three weeks, the nation has lost two of its great patriots. Karpal was a noble and honourable leader who deserved more respect and recognition but that doesn't happen in this country.

ACR: Karpal was, for decades, amongst the few voices in the August House who defended the rights of minorities in this country. But his principles and sense of justice resonated with all fair-minded Malaysians irrespective of race or religion.

We are all devastated at his untimely death and that too in an accident, but his soul will be at peace for the righteousness he embodied in his lifetime and that is what matters in the ultimate analysis.

Headhunter: How very sad. We lost yet another great Malaysian who will be fondly remembered as a fearless leader who has done more for our democracy than any other leader had.

It’s going to be hard for anyone to fill the shoes of this giant of a man. Goodbye, dear ‘Tiger of Jelutong’ and thank you for inspiring us to stand for our rights.

Yap Cs: My condolences to the family of Karpal Singh, a true son of Malaysia. He was a legend in his own time, a hero whose deeds will be remembered by the country in time and whose contributions will be sorely missed.

Anonymous_1395686384: Many politicians and head of states have passed away, I have never felt sad nor the loss as I feel this morning.

It's the greatest loss to the nation since the passing of Tunku. My condolences to the families of Karpal and his long-time aide Michael Cornelius Jayakrishnan.

Karpal has been an icon of freedom, justice and fairness, and I am sure many would agree that in his memory we should erect a bronze statue of him in Penang as the generations after us would remember his courage and the sacrifices he had made for making Malaysia a better nation (as I doubt he would be even mentioned in our history books).

Anonymous_3f4b: A legal luminary has passed on. A legal stalwart, fearless, brave and principled politician. There will be no other like Karpal. Only Karpal and he alone dare to challenge the authorities, take on sensitive and tough issues and call a spade a spade.

With the tiger gone, who will be left to speak against the excesses of government, hudud, party and official misdemeanours and felonies?

The Patriot: If Karpal was on the other side of the divide, he would have collected a string of awards and titles.

I am not sure what his religious belief was, but his choice to make a stand for right and fair principles and was persecuted for it surely qualify him to be amongst our country’s heroes.

Pputeh: Karpal, I am lost for words. God, oh, why had this man of truth and saviour of the poor be taken from us so early?

He started the fire of fairness and truth in us but now alas he is not around to help us on. Truely a loss to all straight thinking and honest Malaysians.

Vijay47: What can I say about this terrible unbearable loss? I am shocked to tears. I am so frightened for all of us.

Cocomomo: A sad day for all Malaysians who cherish a moderate and just Malaysia. However, what he fought for will not end with his passing.

Malaysians should rise together as Malaysians, casting aside racial and religious differences to build a moderate and just Malaysia.

Kangaroocourt: He was an iconic Malaysian and a fine example of a fighter of our constitutional rights. He was outspoken and fearless in his quest for a better Malaysia.

His passing is a great tragedy and he will be sorely missed. We hope for every Karpal Singh lost, more Karpal Singhs will come forth to help us all.

Speaking Sense: Let us honour the memory of a true patriot by giving his beloved country a truly democratic, fair and clean government in the next election.

Umno and BN can persecute a man, but they cannot snuff out his integrity and aspirations for this country.
