The PAS Permatang Pasir assemblyperson said he's all for the PAS government's efforts to implement syariah law in Malaysia, especially in Kelantan, as most of the citizens there are Muslims.
The party intends to table the Syariah Criminal Code Enactment (II) in Parliament to remove legal hurdles at the federal level.
"Other than punishment appropriate to the offence, the main purpose of syariah law is to educate the people so that they will repent their wrongdoings," said Salleh, in a Whatapps message to queries on his stand on hudud.
"At the same time, the law can also prevent people from wrongful acts which threaten life, religion, dignity, property, family lineage and human rights on this earth.
"After the law is implemented wholly, principles of justice, equality and the beauty of the Islamic syariah will be understood and appreciated, and it will address misunderstandings and inaccurate perceptions towards it."
Salleh said the syariah is very thorough as it covers all aspects of life, with hudud being just one small aspect.
He urge detractors of the proposal to give Kelantan a chance to implement the law, saying he is confident that all sides, regardless of political allegiance or religion will support it.
He added that the understanding and explanation about the goodness of the Islamic syariah must continue to be told to all levels of society, including non-Muslims.
"MAIPP will soon organise a seminar and dialogue session on understanding the syariah for the public. The council is always open for discussion, views, and proposals from all groups, to preserve Islam and develop Penang," he concluded.
