TELUK INTAN Just a few days before the Teluk Intan voters cast their ballots for their parliamentary seat, the top leadership of PAS has thrown its weight behind the DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang ( right ) affirmed that the Islamist party backs the DAP choice of a young Malay candidate, even though Dyana has said she would abide by DAP's decision not to support hudud in Parliament.

"She is a Malay daughter with clear vision and mission. Furthermore, I believe she can stand up for the people here if she is given the chance," Hadi is quoted as saying in today’s issue of Malay daily Sinar Harian.

Hadi said PAS and DAP may have their differences, but both can still sit together and help each other to overcome the abuses hurled by BN.

'Shabery must apologise to Perakians'

Meanwhile, DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang has gone on the offensive, urging Communication and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek to apologise to Perakians for failing to give them the best broadband.

According to Sinar Harian, Lim cited an unnamed research report which said Perak has the lowest broadband penetration rate in the country. The percentage of households who own computers are also far lower, compared with the other states, Lim said.

"Shabery did say that if we want broadband, we have to vote for Mah. This is very irresponsible," he is quoted as telling a press conference in Teluk Intan.

Lim said Shabery should be ashamed for neglecting the state.
