MH370 Some family members of the passengers on Malaysia Airlines MH370 flight have launched an online campaign to raise US$5 million (RM16.065 million), which will go to any firm or individual which provides vital information leading to the discovery of the missing plane.

It is done through public contributions via popular online crowdfunding website Indiegogo.

The page for the donations will be launched today at 8pm in Malaysia, coinciding with the three-month mark since the flight disappeared from civilian radars on March 8.

In a statement, individuals who are launching the crowd funding move, said that a secure website will be launched on June 15, to handle all the submissions from members of the public regarding the location of the plane.

The Boeing 777-200ER disappeared in the wee hours of March 8 while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The search has extended to the Malacca Straits and also the Indian Ocean in the following months but has yet to yield any results.

"The more (donations) we raise, the higher the reward will be, and the more encouragement for someone to come forward," the statement said.

The team launching the campaign consists of several family members of those who were on the ill-fated flight and "individuals with specialist skills."

Two hundred and thirty-nine people from 14 different countries were on the plane that had went missing.

“This mystery is unprecedented in the history of aviation, and we need to work as a collective community with one goal of finding the truth, the plane and the passengers,” said Ethan Hunt, the project leader.
