Go back to school, Umno leader tells DAP
DAP leaders must go back to school in order to tell the difference between a threat and reminder, said Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
DAP leaders must go back to school in order to tell the difference between a threat and reminder, said Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
He also said the opposition party cannot exist without playing up racial issues and therefore deliberately “manipulated” Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement.
Puad was referring to the criticism from DAP leaders, who accused Muhyiddin of warning that another May 13 racial riot would take place.
However, BN parties claimed that the deputy premier had merely issued a reminder not to take racial unity for granted.
“This is DAP’s work. They cannot live without racist issues.
“Their political survival depends on these issues. So whenever there is a chance, they would manipulate it,” Puad told Umno Online yesterday.
“This is because DAP is worried about the unresolved issues regarding their party polls which contributed to DAP’s defeat in the Teluk Intan by-election,” he added.
Puad said DAP is aware that the BN government does not compromise with racial issues which could spark off tension in the country.
“This is the reason why when the 1969 riots took place, the government immediately reacted to resolve the conflict in order not to allow it to prolong as in other countries,” he added.
This proves that while BN rejected the politics of race, DAP harps on it for political mileage without giving consideration about the people’s future.
The Umno leader also called on the government to be stern with any individual, including politicians, who stoke racial sentiments.
“We cannot allow such actions because they invite racial strife, which if happens again, will have more dire consequences as opposed to the incident in the past,” he warned.
“If the late (DAP chairperson) Karpal Singh can be charged under the Sedition Act, I am sure the same law can be invoked against any individual who plays up racial issues,” he added.
