Although the Selangor government has not failed, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim pointed out that other issues that have plagued the state.

"I don’t think the Selangor government has failed. There’s strength that we cannot deny, such as in terms of financial management.

"But at the same time, there are issues such as water shortage, the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) project and the seizure of Malay-language Bibles,” he said.

Anwar admitted that such issues worry the people.

"It is not about the state getting a higher surplus, but it is about lessening the burden of the people," he told NGOs and media at an event organised by his office at the Royal Selangor Club.

The PKR de facto leader was also frank when he said that it was well understood that the 'Kajang Move' was to pave the way for him to become Selangor MB.

"It was to resolve that problem," he said, in obvious reference to the spat between Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and incumbent PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

"Umno knew this, that is why they used the Court of Appeal which overturned my acquittal to sodomy, to deny my menteri besar-ship."

'MB post doesn't belong to anyone'

He, however, stressed that the menteri besar seat was not a "personal" seat for any individual.

"Selangor has come to a stage where we have to come to a final decision. And the decision is to be made by PKR and Pakatan Rakyat, not Umno.

"We hope to achieve the decision in the near future," he said.

Astro Awani yesterday reported that Khalid will resign as menteri besar by September, but Sin Chew Daily said he would leave by October.

Speculation of Khalid tendering his resignation letter to Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah began swirling on Sunday.

Khalid, who has expressed intention to complete his second term, has dismissed the reports as mere rumours.
