PKR central leadership council member Yahya Mat Sahri has insisted that the party's Kapar division chief Azizi Ayob was in support of PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail taking over as Selangor Menteri Besar.

This comes after Azizi yesterday denied signing a joint statement with four other PKR division chiefs calling for disciplinary action to be taken against Abdul Khalid while also expressing support for Wan Azizah.

"That is his (Azizi's) personal matter. Maybe he was frightened or was asked to support someone else.

"But from what I know he had agreed with the party's decision when the press statement was issued," he told Malaysiakini .

Yahya (l eft ), who is Tanjung Karang PKR division chief, was also a signatory to the statement together with Talip Bujang (Sabak Bernam), Mohamad Fauzi Ahmad (Sungai Besar) and Burhan Aman Shah (Sepang).

The statement justified the call for disciplinary action against Abdul Khalid for his defiance of the party's decision to make way for Wan Azizah as menteri besar.

Yahya insisted that all division leaders in Selangor were in support of Wan Azizah and none voiced opposition during meetings at the state and central level.

"In the central leadership council meeting as well as meeting with division leaders before this, everyone were unanimously in support," he said.

Yesterday, Azizi was quoted by New Straits Times as saying that his name was used in the statement without his consent.

When contacted, Azizi maintained this stance but refused to elaborate.

"I hereby deny making the press statement and stressed that I have never agreed to it," he said in a text message to Malaysiakini .
