PKR board hauls MB Khalid in for inquiry
Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has been called in by PKR’s disciplinary board to respond to the controversial issues that have prompted calls for him to be replaced.
Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has been called in by PKR’s disciplinary board to respond to the controversial issues that have prompted calls for him to be replaced.
The board’s chairperson Tan Kee Kwong said Khalid would have to attend a disciplinary board meeting at the PKR headquarters at 3pm tomorrow.
This comes after the board acknowledged receiving a reply from Khalid to a show-cause letter it issue to him on Tuesday.
Besides the issue of his press statement on July 22, Khalid will also be questioned on the following matters:
- Selangor water restructuring,
- menteri besar's new allowances,
- hikes in business licence fees,
- Khalid's personal loan with Bank Islam, and
- the proposal for the new Kidex highway.
If Khalid cannot attend the session tomorrow, Tan (left) said, PKR has given him an alternative date to come in - at noon on Saturday.
However, when met in Shah Alam today, Khalid refused to say whether he would face the disciplinary committee.
Instead, the MB said that he would answer the party comprehensively through a letter that he plans to write tonight.
He said the letter would be delivered to PKR by 10am tomorrow.
“For the contents, wait for tomorrow,” he said.
The latest salvo against Khalid only serves to confirm talk that PKR may be out to sack Khalid before PAS meets on Sunday (Aug 10) to make its final decision whether to back or drop support for the incumbent MB, who is serving his second term.
PAS leaders have repeatedly said that they could find no fault with Khalid.
Instead, PKR appears to have stepped up their case against Khalid, which is said to date back to at least Jan 15.
After giving him just three days grace to reply to a show-cause letter, they now give him two days notice to come in to answer for what appears to be very serious allegations against his administration and him personally.
PKR had on July 21 named party president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (right) to replace Khalid as the new Selangor menteri besar.
In his reply to his own party’s show-cause letter yesterday, Khalid questioned why PKR had issued him a faulty letter which had no details of his so-called wrongdoings and avoided the issue.
Pressing on with his duty as Selangor MB, he launched a bridge in Klang yesterday and cheefully told reporters that he was having fun ( seronok ) and would only work harder and faster to safeguard Selangorians’ interest, amidst mounting pressure for him to leave office.
Khalid has said that only “process”, and nothing else, can remove him as a MB. As DAP, PAS and PKR hold an almost equal number of seats - making up the majority in Selangor state assembly - the menteri besar can be only be replaced if all three parties can agree.
Khalid is also the Port Klang state assemblyperson and MP for Bandar Tun Razak.
